We were coming back from a long day of exploring and all six of us wanted lobster and seafood—again! We were traveling from Portland to Bar Harbor, and J’s Oyster kept coming up in our search, so we decided to give it a try.When we arrived, my friend who was driving was a little irritated because it was down on the wharf and felt very touristy. She was convinced we had made the wrong choice and really didn’t want to go. Well, she was wrong—and by the end of our trip, all six of us agreed that this meal was actually one of the highlights.We were seated at the perfect corner table for six, and our waitress was young, bright, sweet and incredibly attentive. From there, everything just kept getting better.The oysters were the best we had during our entire trip, and we tried oysters at multiple places throughout Maine. The whole lobster was fantastic. And the corn! I couldn’t believe how good it was—it didn’t even need butter. Everyone at the table raved about what they ordered, whether it was the lobster stew, lobster roll, crab roll or whole lobster. There wasn’t a disappointing dish among us.I’m writing this at the end of our trip, after a week of eating lobster and seafood all over Maine, which gives us a lot to compare it to. J’s really stands out. The food was excellent, the quality was there, the portions were good, and we thought it was very reasonably priced for what we received.Our only criticism was seeing the hostess eating linguine right at the hostess stand. We all thought that was a little unnecessary and not particularly professional. Give the staff a proper break or somewhere to sit and enjoy their meal rather than having them eat while greeting customers.But that is a small complaint compared with how much we enjoyed everything else. What initially looked like it might be a touristy mistake turned into one of our favorite meals of the trip.Five stars from all six of us. We would absolutely go back.

Perfect NE style eatery and bar. My wife and I loved it. Amazing oysters, crab cakes were legit tasty too. Just go!

Ok. If you are looking for freshest oysters in town this is a place to go…All time favorite ❤️If you have a choice seat inside- nice atmosphere.

Tesla waited on, may.She really went out of her way to make me feel comfortable and make accommodations.The seafood casserole was hands down the best one i've ever eaten in my life.It was delicious.Buttery had the perfect amount of breadcrumbs and a lot of seafood and lobster

I love “locals” places like this. After a long day at work I got into Portland at 5pm on a summer Saturday. Found a seat at the bar as luck would have it. J’s is super popular! A cold local IPA and some fresh raw oysters to kick off my Birthday dinner. Lobster…fantastic!!! Love J’s!!
